Head of Market Development

Job Description

Responsible for leading business development of power system market opportunities to develop virtual power plants (VPPs) consisting of aggregated distributed energy resources. The role utilizes experience with development and contract negotiations of VPPs operated to deliver various utility-scale grid resources (capacity, energy, and ancillary services) to electric utilities, markets, and other 3rd parties. This position regularly interfaces with a cross-functional team leading the evaluation of new market opportunities for Swell Energy. Additionally, this role at C-Level may supervise and manage a business development team. The business development team function is to secure distributed resource projects with customers, including searching out and responding to RFx solicitations associated with development of VPPs.

Responsibilities

• Lead utility procurement strategy and development team

• Lead and support market research, analysis, and opportunity assessments

• Support electric policy and regulatory activities through market and opportunity assessments to identify related key issues and potential impact on Swell’s business

• Lead strategic market development partnerships and special projects (eLab, SEPA, DOE, etc)

• C-Level role will manage the market development team

• Lead RFx process in collaboration with Grid Services and other Swell functional groups such as finance, legal, and sales

• Participate in public speaking at industry conferences and public proceedings

Requirements

• Demonstrated business expertise across market development lifecycle: market analysis, counterparty and partner analysis

• Preferred BA/BS degree with evidence of quantitative coursework such as finance, economics, engineering, or mathematics

• Ten years of related energy and utility experience

• Expert in MS Excel

• Excellent problem solving and analysis skills, combined with impeccable judgment and ability to communicate with senior management team

• Extremely detail oriented, and comfortable multi-tasking within a fast-paced environment

• Familiarity with the US energy markets including industry participants, economics and trends

• Experience preparing RFx responses

• Ability to abide by and positively influence the information secure culture at Swell Energy.
